A true story of faith when the walls of life come crashing down
Two of my greatest fears have always been hearing the words 'You have cancer' and being the victim of a false accusation.

Two of my greatest fears have always been hearing the words 'You have cancer' and being the victim of a false accusation.
Twelve Seconds is a compelling work of narrative nonfiction that chronicles the extraordinary thirty-year ministry of mentor and youth leader Tim Sharer, culminating in the devastating aftermath of a false accusation against him. Through three decades of Christian mentoring young men—many of whom became leaders in ministry, business, the military, academia, professional sports, and public service—Tim built a multigenerational community rooted in faith, accountability, and brotherhood.
But in 2021, in just twelve seconds, everything changed.
This book serves as both a testimony of faith under fire and a deeply personal exploration of legacy, suffering, loyalty, and God’s sustaining presence during the darkest hours. With raw honesty and irrefutable vulnerability, Tim recounts the emotional, spiritual, and relational toll of navigating rumors, betrayals, broken trust, and even death threats—while the very men he once discipled rallied around him in an unexpected reversal of roles.
Part memoir, part spiritual reflection, and part inspirational guide for anyone walking through crisis, in Twelve Seconds Tim shares his story in his own words illuminating what it means to endure hardship while clinging to faith and community.

A gripping, authentic story of perseverance through false accusation and public scrutiny, this book serves as a model of radical honesty, spiritual resilience, and practical discipleship. It provides valuable insights into Christian mentoring, youth ministry, and faith-based leadership. Readers will find encouragement in the message that God’s presence does not disappear in suffering—but often becomes more visible during difficult times. This narrative is a powerful example of how Christian community can support the broken, even when the world turns away.
This book promises hope to anyone fighting an unseen battle, facing reputation-destroying circumstances, or wondering where God is when life collapses.

Finally, at one point I told him, “And then Trevor warned me not to get too close because if Ray thinks I am involved with an abuse accusation against him, he will accuse me of saying and doing some of the same disgusting things he has done. That’s what he does.” Detective Moser matter-of-factly responded, “Well, that’s where we are right now."
My whole world just stopped. I leaned back in my chair and whispered, “I was there for a kid who was going to shoot himself. From a hero to a pedophile."
I ran over to Debbie and said, “I think the dude was an angel, seriously. Check out my arm. Those are humongous goosebumps. You can’t fake goosebumps.” It was as if God was blatantly telling me not to worry, because He was here and was walking through this fire with me.

TIM SHARER began mentoring young men in 1989 and hasn’t slowed down, even to this day. His dedication to Christian mentoring has led him to guide countless teens through Bible studies, camp groups, mission trips, and a varsity basketball program. With a thirty-five-year tenure spanning across six different presidencies, Tim offers a unique perspective on how the characteristics, thoughts, and challenges of being a teenager have evolved over the decades. Many of his mentees now serve as business leaders, pastors, professors, elected officials, military officers, and professional athletes—including a ten-year NFL player, a state legislator, and multiple high-ranking military personnel.
Tim is known for his authenticity, humor, storytelling, and unwavering commitment to mentoring the next generation. He has also taught hundreds of volunteer student workers through in-home and classroom workshops. As an Investment Professional for over thirty years, he started his own company, Sharer McKinley Group, LLC, in 2002. Tim's wife, Debbie, who has been by his side for forty years, is the love of his life and supports him in his hobby of spoiling their two daughters and five grandchildren.

Family is at the heart of Tim Sharer’s journey, both in life and in his book 12 Seconds. Tim’s unwavering love for his family has been his anchor through life’s challenges, including facing false accusations, and triumphs. This cherished family photo captures the deep bond they share—a reminder that love, faith, and resilience can overcome anything, much like the principles found in Christian mentoring.
"If you’d like to learn about effective student ministry from one of the best in Christian mentoring, you need to read this book. If you want to laugh, cry, be inspired, or be challenged, you need to read this book. But, if you need to be reminded or warned that all who live 'godly in Christ Jesus' will be put on Satan’s hit list, you have to read this book."
